Starling-Ohio
Our Story
Starling-Ohio was founded in 1895, nineteen years before the Ohio State Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry. Wives of faculty from two predecessor schools, the Starling Medical College and the Ohio Medical University, organized to help medical and dental students by giving loans and social support. It was said, “the social welfare of the student strangers within our gates is very important—and the world is hungry for friendship.” With annual dues of 50 cents, Starling-Ohio grew at one time to almost 400 members. In 1991 the loan program ended and was replaced by the Starling-Ohio Women’s Club Scholarship Fund in the Ohio State Foundation.
Today, all faculty and faculty spouses of the College of Medicine and Dentistry are welcome to join as member. Annual dues are $45, with 90% of these funds going to support student scholarships.
